The Adventures of Tom and Barard

Title:The Adventures of Tom and Barard
Category: slash.
Rating: NC-17 for sexual content. Contains violence, some references to non-consensual sex, and lots of hurt/comfort. I make no money from these stories, and give grateful thanks to JRR Tolkien for providing us with such a richly imagined world to play in.

Chapter 13 has been posted, and can be found here

Earlier chapters can be found here

Since I gave [livejournal.com profile] aliena_z the wrong date for my window of opportunity to post this chapter, I haven't had all her grammar corrections. She usually manages to tease more sense out of my words, so I apologise for my incompetance. Corrections will come along later. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] mariole and [livejournal.com profile] ghyste for their valuable comments on content, and to [livejournal.com profile] peachy for catching some of my missed punctuation and spelling errors.

Awwww! Happy, sated, sappy hobbits! I loves it!

Thank you. :) I have a soft spot for sappy, sated hobbits, as well.

Duh! Well, OK, that's obvious by now. :D

Okay, I am now officially a puddle of GOO. I love the hobbity room made to Faros's suggestion, and the misunderstanding over "rubbing feet," and how Barard keeps surprising Tom with how much Southron he actually understands. I *love* Barard's bravery in the face of his madness, and the two of them dealing (very believably, mind!) with the trust issues following such a long, difficult separation. And OY, the loving!!!!!! Fantastic. And that last line utterly completed my transition from solid to semi-liquid.

*wanders off to find ice in hopes of re-attaining solid status*

and how Barard keeps surprising Tom with how much Southron he actually understands

I imagine he'd be better at hearing,/i> it than at speaking it. He had a basic knowledge, supplemented a little before he was arrested. He probably had more opportunity to listen to it than speak it while he was in prison, so (like me in French) he can understand reasonably well, to get the jist of a conversation, but has difficulty getting his sentences constructed. I also think Barard would be much quicker than Tom to learn written Southron but Tom (with his dyslexia) would be better at listening and picking up the sounds.

And OY, the loving!!!!!! Fantastic

More loving to come. :)

Another chapter so soon ! This was lovely. I don't have much time today but I had to read this before I leave the house. I have to say some more, later. Now I'm off to work with a silly smile on my face ;)

Elycia said it all so well that I was tempted to only leave a comment saying that I second everything she said. But I know that would make me feel very guilty so I will say that I second everything she said AND that I loved to see how they are both slowly finding their way back to how they were before all this happened.

Can't wait for more!!! :)

Thank you, FSS. :)

I loved to see how they are both slowly finding their way back to how they were before all this happened.

I really cursed Barard over this - since he suggested the story idea in the first place - because it was very hard to write it without reprising a lot of the themes in ATIH. I do seem to have a thing about writing established relationships where there is some barrier, mental or physical, to that relationship. I wonder what that says about me? Probably best not to know. :D

Eeeeeeeeeeep - I have been thinking about similarities to ATIH when reading this story. But in a good way. Similar themes but different characters. I don't think you should worry about it - we all have themes that we come back to again and again, be it as writers or readers. :)

What a wonderful surprise to find another chapter so soon! I loved how Tom & Barard resolved their misunderstandings and were finally able to love again.

Thank you, Addie. I like the way Barard is prepared to stand up to Tom's more controlling personality when the occasion demands it. :)

Well, I'm all caught up now and I could just kick myself for allowing RL to keep me away! This story is wonderful---you detailed the Southron world so well that it's almost canon for me now. Your OCs are delightful and well-drawn, and I love how you wove Tom's memories of Barard into each chapter. It kept their love very evident in spite of their painful separation.

And now they've found each other again. *melts into a puddle*

Ooops. Wrong icon. My finger slipped. :D

Thank you, Annwyn

I've had great fun building up the Southron culture. Tolkien tells us that war between Gondor and Harad continued for several decades after the fall of Sauron; I thought it only right that hobbits should somehow be involved in bringing in a new era of peace and prosperity between the two nations.

Your OCs are delightful and well-drawn
