Here is a short piece I wrote in early 2003 on Frodo and denial.

As a bonus, I originally also posted a link to an early draft of an epilogue to All That I Had. If you didn't read it at the time, sorry, I've taken it down, but you can read the final version in the fullness of time. Just don't hold your breath, it's going very slowly...

ETA: sorry to post early (for some). I had intended to post at my daughter's today, but I discovered late last night that she doesn't have internet access. Have fun. I'll be back tomorrow.

Tom and Barard will be waiting anytime you're able to give them your attention...

While it was sad to see Tom and Barard growing close to the end of their lives (and the end of adventurous hobbits in Middle Earth), and the aging of Faros and Catos, I was glad to see them here. (I have grown very fond of them).
Legolas' reflection of the Council of Elrond and how Tom and Barard knew of Frodo only through legend, while he could recall the scene as if he were there, was very moving and left me wanting more, more, more.
A great Hobbit Month post. Thank you.

I always thought it very telling that Legolas waited to leave until after Aragorn died. As for the end of adventurous hobbits... who knows? :D
Thank you for commenting, Addie. :)

I can barely remember a world without hobbits, that was far too many years ago. : D

Thank you. :) It felt very rushed (for me) so I guess it was "small" in that I felt I'd done inadequate work on it, but, after all, the compass was a small present. :D

Thanks ever so much for adding to your story.

Well, they've had a lot of time to get over that little escapade. Legolas might consider Catos as "young" but he's 60 by the time Elessar dies, and Faros is 73, so that Khand adventure is more than 40 years ago. Faros is a grandfather, Catos never did marry.

Awwwwwwww. I loved this bit, and also the bit at the end about life not being the same without hobbits!
Very very lovely - as a hobbit fancier I rarely read about Legolas and Gimli and so I was very happy to find them in this wonderful snippet!!! Thank you for the excellent description of how Legoloas feels about the deaths of his friends - that touched me the most.
*hugs* Thank you for this lovely contribution to Hobbit Month!
